Discussion board posts, Flip videos, Padlet activities, Jamboard use during synchronous sessions, individual research, and practical projects that can be implemented in the classroom
What do you want students to learn in these courses? What is the expected learning outcome?
My goal is for students to understand how to successfully integrate technology to enhance the learning environment. Further, I want students to leave my class with learning activities, lessons and units that they can immediately implement into their PK-12 classroom.
Why did you start teaching?
I've been teaching my whole life. I began with teaching swimming lessons when I was in high school. I'm a certified K-12 Physical Education teacher. I taught undergraduate classes while earning my PhD. I've been teaching in Higher Education since 2002.
What advice would you give to those considering this online program?
Stay on top of your assignments. Pay careful attention to due dates. And always, always ask questions when assignment guidelines are unclear. Don't wait for it to make sense. Tell the professor you don't understand.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (mainly because I grew up 50 miles from where the murders took place)
Tell us something interesting about yourself that your students might not know.
I grew up a "farm kid," and many of my K-12 teachers never expected me to leave the farm, much less go to college.
