Key steps for admission to the online MS in Accountancy – Business Analytics

Admission to the MS in Accountancy with a Specialization in Business Analytics online program is based on a variety of factors including undergraduate grade point average (GPA), professional resume and previous work in other graduate programs.

  • Minimum GPA of 2.50 in undergraduate coursework and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in any graduate coursework**
  • Current resume demonstrating detailed post-bachelor's degree professional work experience

  • All applicants with foreign academic credentials whose first language is not English must demonstrate adequate English language proficiency in advance of admission
    • Proof of English Proficiency: minimum requirements are TOEFL (79), IELTS (6.5) or equivalent

*The Accounting Department welcomes applicants with undergraduate degrees in majors other than accounting, but the applicant must satisfy the graduate program prerequisites by completing appropriate undergraduate accounting courses. To complete the MSA prerequisites at SIUE, please apply as a BSA undergraduate student. Once the pre-requisites are satisfied, students will be directed on how to apply/transfer to MSA. **Applicants with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or lower in undergraduate coursework may be required to submit recent GMAT or GRE scores after initial review of the application.

Admission to the MS in Accountancy program is selective based on a variety of factors. The program, at its discretion, may request GMAT or GRE test scores, other supporting documents, or interviews that demonstrate the applicant’s ability to successfully complete the MS in Accountancy degree.

Applicants should have grades in quantitative courses that indicate a high probability of success in completing the program. A review of quantitative courses will be conducted by the MS in Accountancy with a Specialization in Business Analytics program director.

Program application materials may be uploaded during the application process, but official transcripts must be sent directly from the school attended, and test scores must be verifiable with the appropriate testing service. Students who were not admitted may appeal. These appeals are handled by the MS in Accountancy with a Specialization in Business Analytics program director. Students seeking an exception are required to provide the program director with evidence supporting the reason such an exception should be granted. The program director's decision regarding the appeal is final.

Students are expected to enter the program with competencies in computer software and statistics.

Note: Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in their MS in Accountancy with a Specialization in Business Analytics courses. Students who fall below this minimum will be placed on academic probation and referred to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. If the student is permitted to continue in the program, the conditions for continuance will be put in writing and communicated to the student. In addition, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in order to receive their degree.

The MS in Accountancy with a Specialization in Business Analytics online curriculum is comprised of 30 credit hours, including 18 credit hours of accounting core courses and 12 credit hours of electives.

Applicants with bachelor's degrees in areas other than accounting can satisfy the program’s prerequisite requirements by completing the following admission prerequisite courses, or their equivalent, with a GPA of 2.7 or better: ACCT 200 or 524, ACCT 301, ACCT 302, ACCT 303, ACCT 311, ACCT 312, ACCT 315 and ACCT 321.

Applicants with bachelor's degrees in areas other than accounting can satisfy the program’s prerequisite requirements by completing the following admission prerequisite courses, or their equivalent, with a GPA of 2.7 or better: ACCT 200 or 524, ACCT 301, ACCT 302, ACCT 303, ACCT 311, ACCT 312, ACCT 315 and ACCT 321.

These courses do not carry credit toward the MSA. Prerequisite courses taken prior to admission to the MSA program ordinarily must have been taken within six years of the date the applicant is admitted. An MSA student undertaking prerequisite courses may be terminated from the program if the student's GPA calculated over all prerequisite courses taken at SIUE falls below 2.7 for more than one semester, the student receives a grade of less than C in any prerequisite course, or the student fails to make satisfactory progress.
